The Girly Sheet

It was hard not to be skeptical while sitting across from a woman who swore she saw colors and energy emanating from my body. My first instinct was to give her a twenty and tell her to take the next bus to the local loony bin. But when she started nailing personality traits, current relationships and future ventures and desires, it was hard not to become a believer. She told me of past lives I’d lived (an Egyptian worker and an Indian woman). She got very excited when she told me that my boss was about to give me a raise (wait a second, how did that get in here?) Add to that a warm personality and a positive outlook, and I found myself listening a little bit more closely.

In a world full of people who claim to know what the future has to hold, Jusstine Kenzer has made herself a bit of an icon. When starting her site www.psychicgirl.com, she had no idea what the response would be. Now she’s lucky if she gets an hour of free time for herself. User comments on the site are nothing but stellar. In fact, through a prediction made for Hennessy, Jusstine gained acclaim for predicting the first person Nicole Kidman would be seen with after her divorce announcement (Russell Crowe). Jusstine also does person-to-person VIP readings in Los Angeles, where she resides. Her advice is useful and guides her clients into a more spiritual lifestyle and awakening. While she may not have the name recognition of Dionne Warwick and her psychic friends, something tells me that Jusstine might just be a bit more authentic.

Fashion Wire Daily April 30, 2004 – Los Angeles – Wanna protect yourself and your possessions in this terrorized world?

Then you need a PsychicGirl Possession Protector, the newest spiritual accessory to hit Hollywood.

Forget all those boring Kabala red string bracelets. Jusstine Kenzer’s eye-catching, brightly-colored porcelain pieces framed in gold or silver, look way cool hanging from your belt loop, purse, cell phone, computer case, rear view mirror, anywhere that needs extra protection.

There are 15 Possession Protectors: two versions of Buddha (Embodiment of Consciousness), Isis (Goddess of Magic), Eye of Horus (Wards off the Evil Eye), White Tara (Goddess of Longevity), Maneki Neko (The Lucky Cat), Ganesh (the Good Luck Elephant) Jesus (The Embodiment of Light and star of Mel Gibson (news)’s new film), Vishnu (Embodiment of Supreme Reality), Quan Yin (Goddess of Compassion), Fortuna (Duh, Goddess of Prosperity), Kali (Destroyer of Illusion), Krishna (The Divine Awakener), Saraswati (Goddess of Creativity).

All are available at Kenzer’s website www.PsychicGirl.com for a mere $30. Add an extra $3 for a leather strap so you can wear it as a bracelet.

Kenzer is a sought-after Hollywood psychic and no, she can’t divulge all her celebrity clients. But trust us, stars and studios heads ask for her help picking projects. How? She simply helps individuals connect with their higher self by intuitively reading and healing them.

You can order your very own psychic reading via instant message or phone. To set up an appointment, simply go to her website.

Kenzer started out as a clothing designer, steeped in the fashion world thanks to her family’s clothing and shoe stores.

By age sixteen, she was making and selling her own clothing and jewelry designs to local LA stores. After design school, she started her own small clothing line but in her free time, she was studying spiritual philosophies and developing her psychic ability. Her psychic talents, at first merely a hobby, ended up replacing her day job.

It was clearly “in the stars.”

Kenzer, currently in development for her own TV show, is considered “Tinseltown’s hottest, uncannily accurate psychic,” says InCircle magazine. She’s been written about in InStyle, Entertainment Weekly, Glamour and Seventeen.

In 2003 E! Entertainment asked Kenzer to forecast who would be nominated in the Emmy female comedy category. She not only predicted all five nominees but also foresaw the win of Jennifer Anniston weeks before the awards.

So do yourself (and your material goods) a favor. Grab a Possession Protector and feel instantly safer and chicer.

Psychic Goes After Ghost Who’s Partial to Pricey Hotel Room

June 12, 2000|BOOTH MOORE, TIMES STAFF WRITER

Imagine you’re the general manager of a chic boutique hotel with a pesky ghost who won’t vacate one of your high-priced villas. What to do? If you’re Rod Gruendyke of West Hollywood’s Sunset Marquis, you hire a medium and hold a seance . . . complete with red wine and tuna tartare.

“I’m a bit, um, embarrassed,” said the buttoned-up Gruendyke. Since 1991, he’s been at the hotel with the rock ‘n’ roll reputation. (It’s played host to President Clinton, Gene Hackman, Ozzy Ozbourne and, most recently, spooky couple Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton.) As far as Gruendyke knows, no one has died in the hotel since it was built in the 1930s, although plenty of guests have left on stretchers. (Too much partying.)

“This is not a publicity stunt,” hotel publicist Kelly Cutrone told the 13 seance guests, who included three reporters. We had gathered in a circle in the living room of Villa 2 South, a $1,200-a-night room with a balcony, rattan decor and, apparently, a ghost with a taste for upscale hotels.

“Rod has had a relationship with the spirit, and the hotel is about to undergo a major renovation,” Cutrone said. “Out of concern for the spirit [and I think probably a need for closure], he asked me to find a psychic.”

“Well, I don’t usually do ghost-busting,” said shiny-haired medium Jusstine Kenzer, who wore a black tunic with silver embroidery.

Over the years, guests–including the girl band appropriately named Bewitched–have seen strange shadows and heard thumping in the villa, Gruendyke said.

The maintenance man won’t enter Villa 2 South by himself, and housekeepers have reported instances of towels left in one location that mysteriously show up in another.

But perhaps the strangest event involved Gruendyke’s children, then 8 and 6, shortly after he took the job.

“One morning after the family stayed in the villa, they said, ‘Daddy, you have the nicest staff! An old lady with gray hair came by and tucked us in last night.’ ” They said she was “like a grandmother,” in a blouse and long skirt.

Before we began, one of the guests, Mary Permila, an Englishwoman who lives in India, passed out rock salt and chile peppers to everyone.

“To prevent effluvium,” she said, meaning to ward off bad spirits, which was fine by me.

Rubbing her hands together, Kenzer tuned in immediately. (She’s used to that; after all she does readings by e-mail from her Web site at www.psychicgirl.com.)

“What is her name?” asked a voice from the darkness.

“I’m not getting a real strong reading on that,” Kenzer said. “Olga, maybe. O is important and M.”

“This may seem superficial,” said Cutrone, ever the publicist, “but was she in any films?”

“No, no. She wasn’t there yet,” Kenzer replied. “She was a starlet in training, but very beautiful.”

The mysterious old woman encountered by the manager’s children, said the medium, was a benign spirit who had come to protect them from the unhappy ghost.

Hard as I tried, I discerned no signals from the great beyond–no shadows, flickering candles, rustling bedclothes or knocking on the walls. I did hear a faint whistling. A sign from the spirit? Or someone calling a dog?

With a small waving motion, Kenzer attempted to “heal” the spirit. She instructed the group to concentrate on the colors white and purple to help.

Did it work?

“I guess it depends on whether you’re a believer or not,” Gruendyke said. “Only time will tell.”

High-prices therapists, watch out. Increasingly, sophisticated women who used to view psychics with cynicism are now seeking, and acting on, advice from the other side.

Another psychic capitalizing on the internet is Jusstine Kenzer, the 32-year-old behind www.psychicgirl.com, a site that proclaims its marketing strategy in bog, bold letters: “PsychicGirl, claiming a unique niche, targeting Gen X, Y and D with spirituality.” Kenzer’s online bio even plays up a statement from the San Francisco Chronicle: “Kenzer is a marketing queen.” (A psychic who unabashedly professes her own marketing genius? Well, if that isn’t portraying oneself as an intelligent woman’s psychic, I don’t know what is.) Kenzer Attributes the rising credibility of psychics to grass roots word of mouth. “Woman who have never consulted a psychic before will see a fiend try it with positive results and think, hey why not?”

How to be a Little Psychic
Want to stay one step ahead of your future?
Try these tricks and never be caught off guard again.

Are you about to be fired? Feedback from your boss hasn’t been stellar, and suddenly she seems uneasy swapping whit-I-did-this-wekend pleasantries. You don’t need a Ouija board to sense a pink slip is heading your way. “Everyone sends out their own kind of energy.” explains psychic Jusstine Kenzer, founder of www.psychicgirl.com in Los Angeles. “What you’re feeling is negative energy from your boss.” Before you pack your bags, consider: It’s possible that your boss has intuitively picked up on your vibes- the insecure ones- and is reacting to them. To find out if you’re really on the skids, give yourself a private pep talk before your next meeting. No guarantees, cautions Kenzer, but there’s a good chance that once you keep your nervousness in check, you may intuitively sense your boss’s energy shifting in your favor.

Psychic Encounter

I’m not a big-time believer — but I’m not completely cynical about psychic abilities either. Unexplainable things happen every day, and I don’t understand the universe well enough to totally dismiss the possibility. So, I asked Jusstine Kenzer, the creator of psychicgirl.com, a question about my own future. What is the next year going to hold for me? Kenzer’s reading was right on at some points: My new house does have a very stark feel, and I do believe in the less-is-more philosophy when it comes to design. And I have always wanted to travel to Africa. But I still can’t identify the grandmotherly spirit from my mother’s side who’s guiding me in writing a book. In the end, though, it doesn’t matter so much what’s true and what’s not. It doesn’t matter if I think there are spirits following me around or not. When I got my reading, I felt very excited about my future, and I started to think a little more carefully about what I wanted and didn’t want. Below, you’ll find tips from Kenzer about how to do you own psychic reading. You, too, should decide for yourself what you believe and what you don’t — choose what you feel comfortable exploring. Practice listening to yourself. Remember, as Kenzer says, that your life is your own to direct.

Power Tips
The first thing is that you have to work on getting clear,” Kenzer says. This is impossible to do when you’re rushing around, going to class, to soccer practice or to your after-school job. Take 10 minutes sometime during your day — like when you first wake up or when you’re going to sleep. Close your eyes, get quiet and let yourself be. Ask a question. You can do this in one of two ways, Kenzer says. You can ask your higher self — and if you do this you should actually try to see this as a separate person, she says. You can also ask a spirit guide, who is, she says, someone who has passed to the other side. “We all have guides around us,” she says, “but because we have free will we have to give them permission to come in and work closer with us. Kenzer says she suggests creating a sanctuary in your room, perhaps lighting candles or insense, and trying your meditation at the same time each day. Close your eyes, she says, and try to imagine that you’re watching a television or movie screen.

Don’t push it. “It’s always when you’re trying really hard [that] it’s never going to come…because you’re forcing it, Kenzer says. Sometimes gratification may be delayed, she advises. Maybe then you’ll go off and be in the middle of your day and boom! The answer will click into your head or as soon as you wake up in the morning,” she says. “Or you might even have a dream and that is the answer coming to you — it’s just coming in a way where it can get to you. Keep trying. You may not get anything at first, because, Kenzer says, Like building a muscle when you’re working out, it takes a while to get it going. Don’t expect the images to roll out like a movie, either, she advises. You might see a face or hear something, she says. You might just see a color, in which case you have to ask yourself what the color means to you.
